USAPL CORNER

November 2005

Competing in the USAPL

One of the reasons I love to compete in the USAPL is because I feel like you get to compete against the “best of the best” in drug free powerlifting. There are a lot of great drug free organizations available to lift in, but if you want to see how you rate against the best in the Nation and World the USAPL gives you that opportunity.

Once you have lifted in an USAPL event you are qualified to compete in the USAPL National Bench Press competition. Here lifters compete in a bench only competition to determine the best benchers in America. Over the last three years we have had over 200 competitors at this event with multiple World Records broken. This event is held every spring at a different location around the country. We are very proud to be hosting the 2007 Championships in Charlotte.

The USAPL also holds many other National Championships; Women’s Powerlifting, Men’s Powerlifting, Master’s Powerlifting, High School Nationals, Collegiate Nationals, Police and Fire, Squat and Deadlift Nationals to name a few. In order to compete in these National events you need to have a qualifying total for your weight class in a USAPL sanctioned event. These totals can be found on the www.usapowerlifting.com web site under “athlete”

Not only is it a great feeling to be able to say you are a National Champion, or ranked in the top five of the Nation, but this event could possible earn you a position on a USAPL World Team. By winning a National Championship and/or having a high enough total an athlete is offered a spot on the World Team. The USAPL is an affiliate of the IPF. The IPF is the largest International Powerlifting organization in the world. When competing in one of these events, you can expect to compete against thirty or more countries. It is an unbelievable experience to travel to other countries and represent the United States of America. Aim high, this could be you.
